Has entered a new era. There was a time when we could count on film studios to produce completely original screenplays and stories, but as budgets have grown larger, massive really more often than not they must depend on some sort of source material in order to make sure that the budget can be recouped at the box office. Comic book movies and films based on book series show this. They need a base that they can depend on. Otherwise with the overinflated budgets that we see movies produced on today they can't justify the risk. There is no guarantee the film will do as well as expected.
